Rugby (Medics)

Formed in 1979, Nottingham Medics RUFC have a proud history of both playing rugby and creating a strong social network that extends right from our 1st years to the most elderly of our alumni. We firmly believe in the importance of having of having a distraction away from the rigours of a demanding course and rugby provides the perfect means. Teamwork, perseverance and commitment are qualities that extend from the pitch right through to our professional lives.

We train twice a week (Mondays 9pm-10pm and Thursdays 7pm-9pm) with the Monday sessions being held at a local 3G facility in West Bridgeford, and the Thursday sessions at Nottingham Casuals Rugby club (which is where we also play our home games)

We have recently been lucky enough to gain the input of two extremely experienced level 4 coaches who run our training sessions. We play in the top league of the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire Security Plus Pennant Leagues. This gives us regular games on a Saturday and after a fantastic season we currently sit top of the league. We also play in the NAMS competition and won The Plate in 2007/08 and 2014/15, were runners up in the plate in 2015/16 and

were runners up in the Cup in 2006/07 and 2009/10. We also participate in the annual NAMS sevens competition, a tournament that continues to go from strength to strength with more teams competing each year.

We have a pre-clinical team that plays in the University of Nottingham Intramural Sports competiton - proving very successful, having won the league twice in the last four years (2013/14 and 2016/17). This is a great opportunity for the 1st and 2nd years to get a run out on a Wednesday afternoon and stake their claim for a Saturday 1st XV shirt.

A new addition to the competitions entered this year is that of the IMS touch league, into which we have entered two teams for the first time. This takes place on the 3G facility on sunday evenings at University Park campus and is extremely enjoyable and very beneficial for fitness.

Being part of NMRUFC does not end upon graduation and each November we host the annual alumni ball following our legendary old boys game bringing all generations of the club together. Every member of the club will tell you how much they enjoy being a part of NMRUFC and how the team spirit extends both on and off the field.“Mors Ultima Linea Rerum Est”
